Baggage Car Series #101 - #104
« on: December 07, 2013, 05:12:31 pm »
Anyone have any photos of baggage cars #101 - #104 they will share?  They are needed for a modeling project.  I looked through every source of photos I have and cannot find any of this series.

Thanks, Ron.

This photo will help.  Apparently, not many photos of this four-car series are in existence.

I'm told that they were rebuilt by the shops from other cars.  It's highly probable that there are photos of these cars, but in other numbers, especially the MoW 80000-series.  I've never seen a conversion chart showing how Monon cars were renumbered and what their final destination was.

The only chart like this I've seen is that information about most of the covered hoppers after the merger.

This #104 at McDoel.  The original car number is visible on the end door.

I said that I took the photo of #104 at McDoel.  I believe it was actually taken at Shops.

Do we know what the length of these heavyweight baggage cars were?  Surfing the internet I believe that:

101 was ex-Pullman Huron Valley, rebuilt from plan 3988T,
102 was ex-Pullman Louise, rebuilt from plan 2416T,
103 was ex-Pullman Amaryllis, rebuilt from plan 3416T, and
104 was ex-Pullman Siverly, rebuilt from plan 2410F.

Pullman records seem to indicate 14 of these cars were sold to CI&L at the end of September in 1947.

Is 79 feet about correct for the length of these cars?

Car 101 was 84' 6" over buffers, car 102 was 82' 2" over buffers, car 103 was 83' 3" over buffers, and car 104 was 82' 4 over buffers.
