MEMORIAL VISITATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Robert “Steve” Cunningham, 75, of Petersburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday evening, July 28, after a lengthy battle with ALS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merrill “Bud” Cunningham and Dorothy Jones Cunningham.  Steve was born in Paoli, Indiana on June 26, 1947. He graduated from Paoli High School in 1965 and Indiana University in 1970. Steve was the Director of Pike County Division of Child Services, retiring in 2011. While still in high school, and before he could drive, Steve “soloed” for his private pilot's license. While attending IU, he was a student trainer for the basketball, baseball and football teams, including the 1967 Rose Bowl team. In the middle years of his life, Steve's faith was strengthened by The Walk to Emmaus, and the men who mentored him during that time. He was an active member of the Free Methodist Church, serving on the Church Board, and as lay delegate. Steve's primary hobby was “all things train,” especially Monon. His interest was fueled at a young age by his father and grandfather, who worked for the railroad. He was actively involved in the Monon Historical Society, serving as Chair of the Membership Committee and Treasurer.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Jan, his son Jeff (Destiny) and daughter Sommer Tucker (James), two stepdaughters, Amber Phillips (Branson), and Megan Vanzant (Jason). He was a proud grandfather to Jared Cunningham (Bryce), Shelby Robbins, Mason Buchanan, Max Cunningham, Cole Phillips, and one great grandson, Kai. Survivors also include Steve's sister, [not allowed]y Wineinger (Calvin), niece Amy Gehlhausen and nephew Aaron Stanley (Melissa). Steve is also survived by cousins that he remained close to throughout his life.

Funeral Service will be at 1 P.M. on Saturday, August 6th, 2022.  Visitation will precede the funeral from 11 A.M. until Service Time at O.D. Harris Funeral Home, 705 East Walnut Street Petersburg, Indiana 47567.
