This photo is of #1 on display at the 1948 Chicago Railroad Fair.  I remember it well.

Holy Hoosier Line Boxcar Bat-Tom!  Those shots #2 and #3 must be of different Chicago RR Fairs/Shows.  Note that #2 has the wheel &rail herald and #3 has the script THL.  Also, the MONON above the CIL on #3 appears to be smaller.  Any additional data to suggest the "when" of each?

On a different note, I have a shot of no. 1 minus the white band but with MON and the large MONON roadname; date on slide is 1965.  Will get scanned and add to this list.

Jim. The last one I posted was given to me by Bob Schultz, who identified it as waiting to be moved to Chicago for the railroad fair. He may have told me what year, but quite honestly, I don't remember. I hope Bob will join the Board someday and answer these questions.

Good eyes, Boiler Jim!  I hadn't even noticed that.  I think Bob's photo is dated correctly as 1948 though.  And that the second photo of it with the styles and with the wheel-on-rail herald is probably the 1949 Fair.  By that time I think the Monon had adopted that scheme in lieu of the script THL scheme and so had repainted #1 that way.

Ron,

Boiler Jim was a handle I used way back in the dark ages 2 whole computers ago!  Today Doc Bug is the more appropriate since I am now an adjunct professor (no pay sadly) as well as a government agent ala (Real) Men In Black.

Doc Bug aka Agent J of the Invasive Aliens Squisher-Squad (stomping out those pesky invasive bugs!)

I found this image of #1 on eBay today.  I had to clean it up, but it's a photo I've never seen before.  The caption has a date of 5/47, but no location indicated.

Here is another photo of Monon boxcar #1 at the Chicago train show.  It was posted on eBay, so I had to clean it up to remove some overlaid text.  The information about the photo was:

Chicago, IL; 9/18/49; tribunephotos collection

Here is another photo of Monon boxcar #1, this time in Crawfordsville.  It is very helpful for the Dept of Past Personnel to have the names of the attendees next to the photo!

I found another photo of #1 on eBay recently.  It is attached along with two other older photos.  Notice that all three have different paint schemes.
