Monon, IN Shop Building
« on: April 06, 2015, 11:19:31 am »
This photo was recently posted for sale on eBay and labeled as the Monon shop building in Monon, IN.

Anyone have more information on this?

George, if that's a Monon RR building, it may have been where they had the rail welding plant.  I've attached a photo of the last diesel shop there.  / Ron

I do believe that the building in George's photo is part of the Rail Plant at Monon.

George,

This is definitely the welded rail plant, which sat west of the west yards at Monon along the lead.  The archives has the construction drawings for the building from the '50s.  There are a few photos that Mark Baker took in the 70s/80s that are very good.

Here are a couple more of the Rail Plant and Frog Shop. All from the Eberhard collection.

Tom,

Thanks for the cool photos.  I think the first one you posted is the "Frog Shop" that sat on the north side of the mainline, while the welded rail plant sat on the south side.  The little crane is at the Monon Connection museum now.

BTW if anyone does not have Cookie's photo CDs, run, do not walk, to the stores to get a copy.  It is great!
