Someone is taking apart the former lift bridge over the Grand Calmet River in Hammond. Anyone know Heggi's where about lately? Picture is from the NWI Times.

Hard to believe the entire main span could have been cut up without Hammond or other local officials being aware. Inside job?

Almost as unbelievable as something taking up a couple miles of track to scrap in Indianapolis and nobody noticing? RIGHT.

This may be a case of the crime being so bold that no member of the public asked any questions. I mean if I saw bulldozers and other heavy equipment taking down a railroad bridge It would never occur to me that it was being done surreptitiously!

Kevin posted a truck/snowplow picture on Facebook. The driver was not visible. It could have been him salvaging.

Better put out an A.P.B

Here's an update. The member of the Hammond Historical Society quoted in the article doesn't seem to understand railroads very well.

Thanks for the link, however, unless you are an on-line subscriber all you see are blue lines where the text should be.

When I answered the survey about Google, it opened up the article.
