Charles M. Wellman, 87, of Bedford, In. died at 12:25 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born to Worth and Lenore E. (White) Wellman on March 12, 1929 in Bloomington, IN.  He married Virginia Newton and she preceded him in death, and he then married Carolyn Axsom in 1995 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Bloomington High School, and retired as an operator from the CSX Railroad in 1989.  He joined the Lions Club in 1975 and was Chairman of the fogging program for 35 years, handicap ramps for 19 years, and the pancake festival for several years.  He also worked vision screening and Bedford parade line-up.  He was a longtime member of Englewood Baptist Church.  He loved golf and woodworking, especially making wooden bowls, and he belonged to South Eastern Wood Turners of Indiana.

Funeral services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, March 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor David Ferry officiating.  A committal service will be at 12 pm on Wednesday at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Charlie built an addition to his house with the wood salvaged from the Bedford freight house.
