I regret that I must inform you of the passing of a legend in the field of Monon Railroad Right of Way Maintenance.

 Alfred J. Popp, 89, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at his home in Sellersburg, Indiana. He was born in 1928 to the late Joseph and Margaret (Graf) Popp in Bennettsville, Indiana. Mr. Popp honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from CSX Transportation after 45 years of service as a Trackman. Mr. Popp was an active member of St. Joe Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg, American Legion post 28 in New Albany, VFW Post 1693 in New Albany and The Brotherhood Maintenance of Way (Railroad Union). Mr. Popp was a longstanding precinct committeeman for Clark County. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Clarissa (Fosskuhl) Popp, his second wife, C. Edna Donahue Popp and his two grandsons, Marquis Popp and Alan Lanham.

 

Survivors include his sons, Donnie Popp (Carla) of Salem, Indiana, Ronnie Popp (Judy) of Charlestown, Indiana, his daughters, Linda Everage (Jim) of Sellersburg, Janet Lanham (James) of Brunswick, Georgia and his sister-in-law, Marcella Popp of Memphis, Indiana. Mr. Popp Also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

 

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Joe Campus) with interment to follow at St. Joe Hill Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg. Visitation will resume on Thursday from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 P.M.  and on Friday from  10:00 A.M. until the processional to church. A recitation of the Rosary will take place at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Veterans Honor Flight. (Honor Flight, Inc.
