MEMORIAL VISITATION

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lifelong Rossville resident and community supporter, Gene E. Remaly, 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on August 15, 2022, at IU Arnett Hospital, Lafayette. Born March 15, 1942, in Lafayette, Gene was the son of Claude E. and Thelma E. (Zimmerman) Remaly. After graduating from Rossville High School in 1960, he married Judith Ann Cohee, his loving wife of 51 years, who preceded him in death on September 30, 2014. Gene enlisted in the US Army National Guard where he served four years. He worked for 30 years for Eli Lilly before retiring as Maintenance Coordinator. Following his retirement, Gene volunteered for more than 22 years for the Rossville Cemetery Association, and 5 years for Koreshan State Park as a guide in Florida, where he wintered. A train enthusiast, Gene collected model HO scale trains and was a member of the Monon Railroad Historical Technical Society and a lifetime member of Tri-State Gas Engine & Tractor Association. He also collected Whizzer motorbikes and always enjoyed time in his workshop. He was also an avid collector of…things. Everyone in town knew that “Gene probably has one,” no matter what they were needing.

Gene will be sadly missed by his children, Al Remaly of Burlington, Carrie (husband Ed) McKinley of Fort Myers, Florida, and Lana Remaly of Muncie; grandchildren, Alyssa and Conner Remaly, Sara (husband Kyle) Gergely, and Kristen (husband Ryan) Bitzegaio; great-grandchildren, Addison and Cole Gergely and Ethan and Will Bitzegaio; brother, Wayne (wife Gwen) Remaly of Owasco, and sister, Erma (husband Ted) Cory of Pike. Gene was very fortunate to spend his last several years with Janet Gaylor, who survives.

The family would like to express appreciation to Jean Brower and Brenda Stevens for providing excellent care of Gene over the past several months. Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, from 3:00 p.m. until the start of the service at 6:00 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home~Rossville Chapel, with Phil Whistler officiating. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Gene asked that memorials be made to the donor’s favorite organization.

Messages of condolence are welcomed at www.gendafuneralhome.com.

Terrible to learn of Gene's passing - was always a welcome and smiling face at the conventions. Rest in Peace.
