Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society
E-News & Notes Vol. 2024-1
22 January 2024

SAVE THE DATE!!!   OUR 2024 ANNUAL CONVENTION WILL BE HELD THE WEEKEND OF
SEPTEMBER 27-29.  IN KEEPING WITH PAST PRACTICE WE WILL RETURN TO NORTHERN
INDIANA FOR THE CONVENTION.  MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW.

In the last issue of E-News I asked if there was any interest in having one of the Monon limestone depots produced in HO scale.  With 3D printing, about any structure or car can be produced.  Unfortunately, I only received four responses.  So at least for the time being, this project has been delayed.  Speaking of models, the society needs someone to step up and chair a modeling committee to produce accurate models for the Monon Railroad.  It would require investigating options for Monon models and presenting this information to the board.  Obviously, this can be done via email, so attendance at the board meeting is not required. Many of our members are retired, so can you devote some time to assist us?

At the November 4, 2023 Board of Directors meeting, I agreed to remain as president for the 2023-24 year and asked the board to help share the workload and respond to emails in a more timely fashion. Rick Dreistadt volunteered to fill the Secretary position and George Lortz has returned to the board of directors.

Join us for a “Monon Day” on Saturday March 23 at the Salem Depot. We will have the usual “Yard Sale” and presentations throughout the day. Including Mont Switzer, Rick Dreistadt, Dave Morrison, and Seth Lakin  (See the attached flyer). Seth was a late addition and his presentation was taken from a Monon switch list for train #57. It describes every car in the train, what it contains, and how to model it.

On December 11, 2023, Caboose 81532 and Business Car No. 2, aka The Lynne, made it to the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum in North Judson, Indiana. The business car was placed inside the “barn” to help protect it from the weather. The MRHTS will work with HVRM to repair and repaint 81532 this spring.

The Company Store will be set up at the following train shows/events:

Sunday January 28 for the NMRA Lebanon IN show, 1300 E 100 S, Boone County Fairgrounds.
Saturday March 16 for the Division 8 show in Louisville KY, 3938 Poplar Level Road, Holy Family Parish.
Saturday March 23 for the Third Annual Mini Convention in Salem, IN MRH-TS HQ's.
Saturday & Sunday August 3 & 4 NMRA Franklin IN show, 250 Fairgrounds Street,  Johnson Co Fairgrounds
Sunday September 29 at the MRHTS Annual Convention
