Title: Runaway cars south of Bedford
Post by: Tom Pinnick on September 08, 2013, 10:44:59 pm
Lawrence County Sheriff reports that 8 container flats that were parked (stored) on the grade south of the white river bridge have derailed. Exact details are unknown and the Sheriff's Dept. has deferred any investigation to CSX officials. There are several container cars stored on the Monon main north of Mitchell.

Sounds like a Black Ops thing. Heggi, were you down around Bedford recently?

How do stored cars derail?

Today's Indpls Star has 2 small paragraphs hidden in Section B in which they say that there were no injuries when a "train" derailed in Lawrence County.   The dispatcher is quoted as saying all 8 cars went off the track just south of Bedford.   "It is unclear what type of train derailed."

I sent Ron an e-mail this week-end and have heard nothing. Makes one wonder.

CSX has offered a $1,000.00 reward for information about the incident. Their investigators have determined that someone vandalized the brake system letting 4 cars roll down hill towards the White River bridge where they derailed. There has been no official mention of derailing on or off the bridge. I would speculate that the north car popped off the derail and finally dropped off the ties causing the bunch to buckle.
