Received the sad news this evening that Sharon Eberhard, Cookie's sister, passed away at Arnett Hospital in Lafayette this afternoon. Arrangements are pending, and I will advise everyone when I learn more. / Ron

Oh my. I am so sorry to hear that Sharon E has died. She was a very nice lady, and very much a fan of the Monon. I'll miss her.

I had a very nic chat with her at the 2013 Convention. I was happy that she was able to attend. Sharon was there to lift my spirits with a get well soon card, or a sympathy card. Yes, Sharon will be missed. Rest In Peace my friend.

Sharon Eberhard Obituary and Arrangements
Sharon H. Eberhard, age 76, of Lafayette, passed away at 5:16 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at IU Health Arnett Hospital. Born September 2, 1937 in Monon, IN, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Hildur E. (Anderson) Eberhard. She was a 1955 graduate of Monon High School and received her Associate's degree in Computer Technology from Ivy Tech.
Sharon worked in interviewing and intake for the Social Security Administration for over 20 years before retiring. Prior to that she worked at Purdue University as a secretary. She was raised in the Methodist Church and a member of Toastmaster's International, a member and an avid historian for the Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society and a member of the Foster Grandparents in Ft. Wayne, IN. She enjoyed knitting and being on her computer. Sharon formerly did clowning in the Lafayette area and was known as "Sheradu".
Surviving are her two sisters, [not allowed]ine A. Smith of Colfax and Donna F. Maitlen of Lafayette, two nieces, four nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Anderson, Mahlon Eberhard and Donald Eberhard.
Memorial visitation one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. memorial service on Saturday at Hippensteel Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Whisler officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Riggs Community Health Center. Hippensteel Funeral Home is entrusted with care. Although I had communicated with Sharon many times over the years, I actually met her at Cookie's and Jean's 50th. Anniversary party in Lafayette on 12/29/2007. I've attached a picture of Sharon taken that day, and several other photos of her I have in my collection. The one with Gene Remaly at the 2013 convention was probably the last she ever had taken.
Sharon was a good person, a true Monon fan, and a great help to everyone in the MRHTS. She will be missed. / Ron

Sharon was very happy the 2013 convention was held in Lafayette so she could attend. She was one of the first to send in her reservations for the banquet. She did not let her mobility issues keep her away. Transportation was arranged for her to get to the banquet and the train show. I am sure she enjoyed seeing everyone. She did a lot of behind the scenes work for the society over the years, she will be missed. While donations to charities were specified, the MRHTS is still sending flowers to Sharon's Memorial also.
