I've had some luck lately finding recently posted pictures of former Monon steam locomotives. Here is my latest find: Pittsburgh & West Virginia 2-8-2 #1010. According to the caption from the P&WV Historical society site 1010 was their only former Monon engine (CI&L 526). It must have toiled under #526 for a time but got renumbered at some point. These photos date from 1946 and 1950. I wonder why every road immediately changed the stack on these engines...? I guess that's easy to do: Loosen a few bolts and bingo. She does still have her original cab and appliances so, like the P&S engines, it retained more of it's original look than the Soo engines after their sale.
First photo caption: "8/3/1946 Helper East at West Liberty, Train #92". George Patterson collection.
Second photo caption: "May 1950, W&LE M1 2-8-2 #6008 comes highballing out of Coen's tunnel at Mingo, Ohio with P&WV train 1st #92 and meets X-1010 with ex Monon 2-8-2 in charge". *JJ Young Jr. photo.

Eric,
Again, thanks for posting these. I've never seen a photo of this locomotive.
