From the Center for Railroad Photography and Art:
"Processing of the color photography in the Fred M. Springer Collection is complete, and some 14,000 of his nearly 50,000 slides are available through our Flickr site."

I suppose everyone has a particular favorite, but I am intrigued by the L&N 1409, an Alco 6 axle in front of the Shops. Those engines spent most of their life hauling coal in Eastern Ky. Whenever the L&N first took over the Monon, they wouldn't allow 6 axles on the Monon.

I like the coal drag, powered by the RS2's. Great shots.

All,
Another neat Bill Raia photo with an interesting line up:

Is this a transfer job in Chicago?
Also several shots related to the one posted by stew earlier showing Monon trains going through State Line:

Mike, the first linked photo is a BRC transfer in its way back to South Hammond. The locomotives have just gone over Western Ave and are about to cross the B&OCT and PRR Panhandle at 75th St tower.
-
Yes, it's a transfer, likely from the BRC's Clearing Yard.
Note on the passenger (T06) shots, that the first car, an RPO, is "foreign", either a GTW or CN car. MONON frequently borrowed head end cars from them when short.
Great photos. These photos though, are extremely frustrating to me, not being able to find a way to save them to my hard drive.
