Back in the mid-1960s, the Monon apparently needed some extra power so they leased an additional RS-2, SPS #63. There may have been others.
This photo appeared recently on eBay and was dated 8/13/66. SPS #63 is seen with caboose #81552. Not sure of the location.

Here's another photo of SPS #63 working the Monon in Chicago on 7/20/66.

My bet would be South Hammond for the first picture

The Monon leased 2 of them, can't remember if the other one was 62 or 64. Most of the time they were MU'ed together.

Rick,
I just found an older, but poor photo of SPS #64 on the Monon. I'm sure you are correct about the second SPS RS-2.

SP&S 63 was built as GN 200, SP&S 64 was built as GN 201. Both were aquired by the SP&S on 3/1/63. Both were sent to Alco Products for tradein credit on 9/1/65. Apparently the Monon leased the two engines from Alco while the road rebuilt the 20 series RS-2's in Lafayette during 1965/66. After it's stay on the Monon, SP&S 64 was sold to the L&N and rebuilt at Louisville as RS-3 #104 (2nd) using components from a wrecked L&N FA. SP&S 63 most likely went to scrap.

Mr. Marquardt, you were an old RS2 head. Did you ever get a chance to run one of the SP&S engines? If so, were there any significant differences in how they handled, etc?
-
Ron, while we're on this su[not allowed]ect, those SPS alcos wouldn't MU with the other RS2's would they?
