Title: Is This Greencastle?

This photo showed up on eBay recently with no date or location.  I think this is Greencastle, but I don't recognize the building visible to the right of 84B.  If it is, those probably are DePauw students ready to board and head home.

Any ideas?

I don't think it's Greencastle.  The platform is longer to the west.

Sure looks like Salem to me, Cecil could confirm that.

Probably is DePauw students that got turned around, ended up in Salem, and are now getting ready to head home.  That photo is Salem.  LOL,  / Ron

Oh come on, guys!  That's Greencastle!  That's clearly the Greencastle depot in the right background.  Train 5 southbound.  Compare it to this shot.  Similar roof line, yes, but not the same.  My second photo is of Salem.  Note there is no freight door on the end.  And there is a grade crossing next to it.  Salem's main drag in fact.

Tim, you're looking at the wrong picture.  The second picture is Greencastle, but the picture that Lortz posted with the 84B in, that started this thread, is SALEM.  See the tank car??  That's where the passing track would be at Greencastle.  / Ron

Ron is correct.  The train is northbound crossing the highway adjacent to the Salem depot.  The Greencastle depot was in the middle of the block between US 231 and the street west of the depot.

The building visible to the right of the locomotive should be the key to the puzzle.  I can't make out the name on the building.

There is no puzzle George.  Your picture that started this thread is SALEM.  I went past that depot almost every day for my first five years on the Monon, and trust me, it's Salem.  Sheesh.  / Ron
