Title: Vehicle Identification
Post by: George Lortz on June 27, 2015, 10:44:23 am
This is John Barriger photo #301 taken in Monon, IN looking north on the line to Michigan City.  What is the vehicle on the siding to the right of #84B?

Looks like a Monon school bus conversion.  I've seen a picture of it somewhere.

The bus is an International of 1941/1949 vintage most likely a model K-5-SB.  There are a couple photos in the Barriger set on the net that show the bus on the track in the distance.

Also in this view is the original Monon scale house, just by the man on the ground, which is not seen very often.  It was replaced in the early '50s by a new one in the west yards.  Cookie told the story of the yard switcher pulling a cut of loaded cars from the crusher to this scale and then kicking the cars across the diamond into the south yard.
