Title: More Monon in Tennessee
Post by: Tim T Swan on February 23, 2016, 04:48:22 pm
Found another photo showing ex-Monon steam in Tennessee.  Classic Trains caption  says "In September 1954, the Tennessee Railroad’s yard at Oneida, Tenn., hosts (from left) an old wooden caboose, 2-8-0 No. 34 (ex-DT&I), gas car M-2, ex-Monon 2-10-2s Nos. 37 and 40."

Tim,

Thanks for the heads-up.  I'm writing a series of articles for THL on the Monon steam engine disposition. My article for the August issue is on the Monon locomotives that went to TENN.  Oneida was their shops location.  TENN #37 was Monon #601 and #40 was #509.

Now I need to find this issue of Classic Trains.  I assume you are talking about the latest issue.

They're on the Classic Trains WEBSITE, George, not the printed magazine.  I think you need to be a subscriber to access it.  Anyway, you wouldn't find anything more about Mon/Tenn RR's than I posted.

Here's the photo.  For some reason, it didn't take (twice!)

More recent finds- Links to the Lake States site, William Raia collection. Excellent photographs of Tenn. RR steam at Oneida, TN of former CI&L 2-8-2 and 2-10-2 locomotives:

Good find, Eric.  The MRHTS Photo Archives has a few photos of these locomotives, but none of them are this good.  The TENN locomotives that were former-Monon were #37 (#601), #39 (#600), #40 (#509) and #41 (#525).
