I have a print of Steam Locomotive #441 at the Bloomington Passenger Station in 1917. I have found the CI&L or Monon Steam Locomotive Roster of which #440 and #442 are listed, but not #441. Does anyone have information about this engine?

CI&L 441 was a 4-6-2 Monon Class K-5 built by Alco Brooks in 1912 and sold for scrap in 1946.

That is a great picture! Was there some kind of event going on? That seems like a lot of people for just a normal day.

you will see an entire article on the event. It was April 2, 1917 and WW1 solders were (arriving or leaving) that isn't clear. It does mention that the Bloomington Monon Station design was an enlarged version of the Monon's French Lick Station. You can also see that the picture in the article shows more of the tracks to the west of the #441 Locomotive, leading to the Tapp & Bridwell Grain Dealers building. Also the 2013 photo of the same area shows that the brick building to the west of Smith Holden was tore down for the street parking. And now in 2016 the Bank Drive thru and parking lot has been replaced with a hotel.

The attached picture was taken on March 17, 2016. The photograph was taken from the same location looking north toward W. Kirkwood Street where the Monon's Bloomington Station picture was taken in April 1917. The Hyatt Hotel now occupies the ground that the station stood on.

The US declared War on Germany on April 2, 1917. I'd bet these people are waiting for newspapers with the latest news from Washington D.C. I doubt this train is carrying inductees yet.
