I've said it before and I'll say it again...how fortunate the Society is to have a historian, writer, and technical expert of Steve Dolzall's caliber. What an impressive article. Thanks, Steve!
-
I'll second that comment!

This is another great article about Monon power. I really liked his explanations as to why Alco and then GE.
Why did the Monon never have dynamic brakes, and why were the C628 radiators mounted outside the long hood?
-
I was always told that there were no dynamic brakes because of the lack of elevation changes on the line. Not sure if this is true or not.

Steve Dolzall's article and accompanying photographs (thanks Steve & Kevin) are among the best I've ever seen covering the su[not allowed]ect of Monon diesels.

Regarding Steve's great article on 2nd. generation diesels, with help from his brother Gary, we have now had four detailed article on the Monon diesel era (EMC demonstrators, F3's, 1st. generation road switchers, and now the 2nd. generation road switcher. I have been told that in the near future we can expect an article from Ron Flanary regarding the use of Monon engines by the L&N after the merger, and then lastly another Dolzall article, this time on Monon yard engines. When finished, these six articles will cover in detail the entire history of Monon diesel locomotives.
We also hope to one day offer these six articles for sale in a separate stand alone publication. / Ron
