This article from the January 17th, 1955 edition of the Hammond Times shows the inaugural ceremony surrounding the launching of the Monon's innovative piggy-back service at South Hammond Yard. Interesting that Glidden Metals, a metal powder producer on Summer St. in Hammond, (ever hear of Lead paint?) was the very first customer for the service. My Dad would go to work for them in 1962.
