Title: Is This A Monon Depot
Post by: George Lortz on January 19, 2021, 12:04:27 am
Someone on eBay posted this rather poor image of what they called a Monon depot taken in 1918.  If it is, the closest I can guess is Bloomington.  Anyone have any ideas?

My guess would be French Lick, but a guess at best.

David,

The pillars on the depot look like French Lick, but the buildings in the background make it look more like a downtown site.  They are not recognizable to me.

This is at Bloomington. The photo of the townsfolk greeting a train there from 1917 confirms it, based on the building in the background.  https://bloomingtonthenandnow.wordpress.com/2013/04/09/waiting-for-the-train-in-bloomington-1917/

Good find, Eric.

Bloomington was my first guess.  John Butler, who just wrote a The Hoosier Line article about Bloomington depots, may have seen this photo before.
