Title: White Stripe "The Hoosier Line" box cars
Post by: Les Beckman on June 16, 2021, 06:54:05 pm
Can anyone tell me what year the Monon started painting "The Hoosier Line" in the white stripe at the top of their boxcars?  I'm sure that this has been asked before (and answered), but I can't seem to find it on the MONON BOARD.

Thanks!

I believe they started in 1952 but someone can check me on that.

Were the stripes white or light gray?

Stew -

Good question.  The "white" band at the top of Nickel Plate Road cabooses that highlighted the "Nickel Plate High Speed Service" was actually light gray and not white.  Perhaps the white band on the Monon box cars was light gray too.

I think Mont once said that they were an off-white color...not light gray though.
