How about a nice Sunday afternoon surprise? A very rare picture of the Romney depot. Before you ask David, I got it at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago. ;) / Ron

Thanks for the photo, Ron. Does anyone know what the colors would have been? On my layout, they are red and gray: a guess I made years ago and have been sticking to, because it looks neat and I have not seen a color image to contradict it.

A different picture of Romney depot.

Interesting picture Ken. Wonder what the Jno stands for? / Ron
-
Jno may stand for Junior.
Here is another picture of a Romney depot; I think it predates the one in the other 2 pictures;
look at the brackets holding up the roof, and also whether there is part of the building
that sticks out trackside for the operator to see.
Didn't the railroad have a different name for Romney?
-
Ron,
Jno is abbreviation for Johnathon.

Thanks Joe, I appreciate it. That Romney picture is neat Ken. Obviously taken during a period when the mileposts were numbered from the south to the north? / Ron

I took some photos of the Wanatah depot in 1974. The paint was badly faded but looked to be red and grey.

Thanks for the photo, Ron. Does anyone know what the colors would have been?
Here is a screen capture of the Lowell depot from the DVD Birth of a Train. It appears that the lower portion is a dark red and the upper half, either a gray or creme color. I realize this is not the clearest image but it's all that I have.

That may not be a very clear picture Tom, but so far it's the only one I've seen. I just checked the archive depot pictures. We have 567 photos, and not one colored photo of a depot painted in the wide band wainscoating paint scheme. Lots of green ones though. Blugh. / Ron

I called my Mom's sister Shirley today and asked if she remembered the colors of the old wooden depot. Shirley said the lower part was a dark red and the upper was a light shade of grey. She gave me another number of a longtime Lowell businessman who also recalled the red and light grey color scheme. Hope this information helps. Color photos are few and far between.

Hey, thanks a bunch, you guys. I really appreciate the information! Somehow I didn't notice your replys until now. Still learning how to use the Board.
Thanks again, Roger
