Title: Steam 561
Post by: James W Smith on February 29, 2012, 06:13:24 pm
Received a copy of this at the very first annual meeting -- wow, what a long time ago!  The debate raged on that day -- is it white, is it pale gold, is it rusty patina?  Someone (Don K maybe?) made a set of decals in white that will letter this, so my HO version is white.  Enjoy.

Jim,

Bill Darnaby chimed into this debate a few years ago and offerred the attached photo as evidence that the lettering was gold/yellow.  I think this photo was taken on one of the centenial fan trips and the white hat is a giveaway by the Monon.  Bill's arguement is that if the hat is white, the lettering is not.  Let me know what you think.

I would say that Bill is correct about that photo.  Looking more closely, the lettering styles seem to be slightly different.  Makes me wonder -- touchup, repaint, or what?  And in certain light with certian brands of color film, white looks like teeth do under untraviolet light.  You do remember UV posters from college, and smiling under the poster because the UV made teeth scary white?

Or, I may be imagining things again --
