Title: L&N #805
Post by: George Lortz on March 29, 2012, 09:48:54 am
According to several Monon books, L&N #554 and #805 were former-Monon F3 locomotives.  Over the years  have found many images of #554 on the Internet, but have been able to find only one small image of #805, which I have attached.

The stories are that #554 is a "kitbashed" unit, but I haven't seen any discussion about #805.  It is suppposed to be Monon #84B (sn 4460), which was traded to Alco in 1966.   Anyone have any information about this locomotive?

I don't know any more about it than that the Carbody is definitely an F3, Undoubtedly X Mon.  I have no reason to doubt the reports contemporary to its use.

Here are 3 shots of it in service passing Tullahoma, TN on the L&N

Thanks for the update, Steve.  I guess it was just luck that the L&N bought a former-Monon locomotive for this purpose.  It's amazing how the movement of all these parts can be traced.

Apparently after the C628's arrived some of the Monon F-3's were leased by the L&N and roamed far from home.
