Man, that's one sharp looking locomotive.  If it ever makes it through Crandall I hope I have my camera handy.

NKP heritage NS 8100 came through Lexington, Ky. May 20th about 7:20PM. 
This is the second heritage locomotive through here, Conrail NS 8098 has been through here at least three times.

Stewart, if the heritage loco came through Crandall yesterday I missed it.  I went fishing about 10 AM and left instructions for my wife to photograph it if she was home, but she said she didn't see or hear any Eastbounds.  But thanks for the heads up anyway.  I guess at this stage in life, fishing takes precedence over watching trains. LOL.

Attached is a photo I took July 3rd of NKP NS 8100 at the NCTM in Spencer, N.C. The number and the NS on the cab has been changed since I posted my previous photos.  It seems that the Nickle Plate put periods after each letter, and 8100 now has N.S. in a more NKP cab location in place of the NS that was positioned after the 8100.  Norfolk Southern tried to make the numbers and markings to look like the heritage railroads painted their cabs. 

The PC unit is painted in brunswick green that looks black unless the sun is positioned just right and the locomotive is next to a black NS one.  It seems that when the PC was first formed the green was used, but not for long.  Then all repainted locomotives were black and became dirty.

The blue on the Norfolk and Western unit is right on.  The N&W was another road that didn't clean the outside of their locomotives, but the inside of the cabs were clean.

What a great shot!  It's a shame MONON black/gold isn't included in there somewhere.  It was indeed a sad day, July 31, 1971, when L&N acquired the MONON instead of the Southern.  If SOU had, perhaps black/gold would have been included here (if they could have found room!).  Heck, maybe NS trains would even be passing through Bloomington today.

I took some more photos of NKP NS 8100 Monday in Ashville, Ohio.  It was the second locomotive behind NKP 765.

NKP 765 2-8-4 is still leading excursion trips, followed by NKP NS 8100, on Norfolk Southern mainlines. This is a link to a photo of the steam locomotive, the GE ES44AC on the Rockville bridge in Pennsylvania, meeting the NS OCS train with F9As and F7Bs.  I know it is not Monon, but a current day photo with F units, the 1944 built steam locomotive, and a brand new diesel is something unique.
