Loren Cooper & Oval "Huts" Neideffer... also went by "Hutch" part of Section Gang working near Cloverdale. Could the bridge be the Highway 40 or Interstate 70 bridge??
Middle Photo: Moto & Slim Roberts on Section Gang.
Bottom Photo: Lunch time. Mike Hargesheimer Collection.

Tom,
US 40 bridge would be a good guess. The photos appear to be too old for it to be I-70. This would put the site immediately south of Putnamville, which is on US 40.

I sort of had that inkling too George. The terrain looked like Putnamville. This is a nice series of photos. I hope I can get Mike to allow Ron to re-scan them for our Archives.

That's a great series of pictures. Sure be great if we had some names. / Ron

I always thought "the section" did the every day maintenance things in their section. This looks like a "track gang" complete with camp cars, including diner, shower car, crane, and heave track machines.

Here is what I have so far on the names mentioned by Tom Kepshire:
Williams Paul EG #1 Trackman at Linden 8/6/48 - 1960s? injured on job; picture near Cloverdale
Pritchett William Extra Gang Foreman (around Paoli?) 1942 - 12/10/56 group photo; lived around Paoli? Roadmaster?
Cooper Loren M of W Welder (at Orleans?) 5/14/64 - 1971+ b. 1/9/14 lived at Orleans
Neideffer Oral M Hutch/Huts Maint Sup. in Roadway Dept, Laf. 8/1/27 - 7/31/71 Oval?; lived in Lafayette
Roberts Moto? Moto? section gang near Cloverdale 1960s? picture
Roberts Slim section gang near Cloverdale 1960s? picture
Any corrections or further info will be appreciated.

Per a suggestion by Gene Remaly, I renamed the thread, Track Gang. My original label was because that is what Mike called the pictures. I believe his relatives were on the gang.
-
In railroad parlance they were both track gangs. The section gangs worked out of sectionhouses and did maintenance work in their particular sections, and the extra gangs lived in camp cars and did heavier work all over the system. / Ron
PS, Ken, do you have the photos matched up with the names?

It can't be Putnamville guys, as the track under U. S. 40 is a curve, and I don't think there was ever a siding under the bridge. The I-70 bridge was built in 1966 or 67. Vern @ G.
