Here is a recent addition to my collection. Downtown Terhune and the Terhune Elevator and white band boxcar with grain doors, circa 1963. Not very often you uncover pictures from Terhune. Robert Johns Family Photo.

I thought by the 1960s the Monon stopped shipping grain in box cars and was using hoppers exclusively. Interesting...

Heath, during grain season there was always a shortge of cars, and they shipped it in anything they could get their hands on. Covered hoppers, box cars, even open top hoppers lined with black plastic. / Ron
PS, I don't think the box cars with the grain loading doors in the roofs were even built until the 1960's. What were they, 10,000 and 15,000 series cars?

Heath, I don't believe covered hoppers were used much for grain until the middle or late '60's. i remember when some of the Southern "Big John" covered hoppers were sent to Clay City for grain being shipped south routed Monon-Louisville-Southern. And in a pinch soybeans were loaded to Ralston Purina at Lafayette in the Monon covered hoppers ordinarily used exclusively for loading soybean meal at Ralston.
