Title: monon trailers
Post by: Ron Simunic on November 21, 2012, 05:49:19 pm
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Two quick questions, one Monon the other not.  Are there any Trailer Maid Trailers with side doors? I've misfiled my Mainline modeler article. Has anyone tried to dull the trim on a mini metal vehical? Dullcoat with a brush seems too thick. Tks in advance, Ron S.

I have used spray Dullcote with varying degrees of success...my general experience with the product is that it looks too 'grainy' on small models; the droplet size leads to too much texture, which doesn't look right at HO or N scales. Airbrushing it at a pressure level that gives a very fine mist (and I don't know whether that would be high pressure or low; I'm not an airbrush expert) might have possibilities.

Ron

I have a copy of a a Monon Railroad trailer -from listserv- showing the predecessor of the Trailer Made
with a side door on the curb side.

This may help - see attached 3 pics of Monon RR trailers.  What would be the (approx) dates of these photos?  (Is Mont Switzer on this listserv?).

Thanks for  the pics.  Just what I needed to put some decals  on a model. Along time ago Mont did an article in Mainline Modeler. My filing system needs some work.

Those "Rails right to your door" trailer were not TrailerMaids.  They predated the TM's by a number of years and were used local delivery from the freighthouse.
