Okay HO scale modelers. Does anyone know what road numbers for the 40' Boxcar, carrying CIL markings and "The Hoosier Line" as the image below. I was asked by a manufacturer who may be doing the 40' in numbers that have never been done. Any help would be appreciated.

The box cars numbered 1-500 would have had that paint scheme. This is #288 in 1969 at Shops with the CIL replaced with MON.

A rerun of car #1 would be cool.

Tom, this scheme first appeared in 1947 as original paint on 500 new boxcars delivered by Pullman-Standard in 1947. These were famously numbered 1 thorugh 500. See attached. They were all welded cars with fairly unsual "rolling pin" ribs on their ends. Some had ribbed doors, some had paneled doors, but all were 6 feet wide.
Shortly after, some of the similar, older cars purchased in 1942 also were painted with this scheme. These cars were riveted and all numbered 9-thousand something. It was a short-lived paint scheme.

Here's a shot of #129.

Tom is wanting to know what numbers have been produced in HO scale in this scheme. So that different numbers can be used on this "new" run. Right Tom?

The only one I'm aware of was #1 on an Athearn box car about 30 years ago. I think it was sold by an NMRA club in Indiana. I bought 4 of them and renumbered 3 of them.

I'll chime in w a few more pics of boxcars in this scheme ("The Hoosier Line"). See attached.

Thanks for all the pictures of the boxcars. What I was attempting to ascertain was which road numbers have already been run over the years by hobby manufacturers. I have been in contact with someone interested in doing some, and wanted to know which numbers had previously been done.

Tom,
I have a #1 made by Athern and #42 made by C&BT

I also have the #1 and #42. They both have rivets. I believe the PS-1 were unriveted. Intermountain has done the right PS-1's for the society. My shelves are full of inaccurate models of the Monon. I probably wouldn't purchace anything in the future that isn't right on, even if it's just for me. I do have several custom pieces, I've purchased over the years in this paint sceme. I was never a rivet counter, but I'm much more careful with my dollars today. I believe I have one of every kit the society has offered. This web-site has been great. Tks, Ron S.

The MONON's first batch of PS1's were acquired in 1949. They were delivered with the Loewy "wheel-on-rail" heralds, not the script THL. The 1-500 series acquired from PS in 1947 were welded, but were NOT PS1's. The 1-500 series is best represented in HO scale by the C&BT Shops model. To my knowledge, no MONON PS1's ever carried the script "The Hoosier Line". The scheme had already fallen out of favor by 1949.

Just to muddy the waters:
I seem to remember that there were several low numbered (single digit) CIL box car kits released in HO scale in the late 40's/early 50's. I think they were the Athern Metal side cars as opposed to Varney paper sides. These kits were state-of-the art at that time.
A paperboy's income was not enough to issue an equipment trust to acquire any in HO at that time.

Bob, apparently thats what I have on the layout. I bought them complete so don't know if they came as kits or RTR. I do have some 50' cars unfinished in a bag. I assume you are right, they are Athern.
