Title: Old Monon ROW claims a life
Post by: Jim Wolfe on November 30, 2012, 09:42:11 pm
Hello everyone.

Delphi Update

The Latest Lafayette news announcement is that a worker at the Hoosier Heartland Highway project has been killed by a landslide. The location as shown in the photos is looking South East.

The photo shows the Milroy home in the background and the Milroy bridge crossing to the right. The lighter colored soil is the ROW that was created by the ID&C when they filled in to grade. The barrcade is on top of the ROW.

Let's start with photo 1 thru 3 taken 8-26-2012. The first Delphi1 is looking S.E. from 25 just 1/8 mile West of the Monon/ST. RD. 25 bridge. This is the section of ROW that had the trees cleared in 1 day. The Milroy bridge is to the right of the photo. Milroy home is beyond the Milroy bridge on the hill.

Photo Delphi2 is standing on the Monon/25 bridge looking towards Delphi. Looks like the local interchange from the old highway to the new.

Photo Delphi3 is standing on where the Anderson switch used to be looking South West.

Photos taken 10-2-2012 (in the rain)

Delphi4 shows the first cut through the old ROW. Camera looking South.

Delphi5 shows the barricade on top of the ROW. The barricade is just South of the Milroy bridge. It was a relief to see posts at the corners of the bridge warning equipment to save and stay off the bridge.

Delphi6 is facing South showing the path of the new highway. The tall crane looks to be driving pile at Deer Creek.  I have seen articles stating that a crossover walkway bridge will be built over the new highway to again connect the Monon trail.

Hope that puts things a little more in prospective.

I have waited several years for this photo. The trees had always blocked the West opening of the Milroy crossing.

This is the side that faces Delphi.
