Title: South Hammond Photo on eBay
Post by: George Lortz on January 16, 2013, 04:14:22 pm
This may not be the correct su[not allowed]ect to post this photo, but I noticed this listing on eBay and it does have Monon content.  The photo is taken at the South Hammond yards on 12/31/71 and shows an L&N locomotive at the sanding tower.

Notice the Monon trailers in the left background.  It proves they were still around at that time.

One question comes to mind.  How soon before 1971 did the L&N start using Monon facilities on a regular basis?

George, I don't think they started using any of our facilities until after the merger.  At least I don't remember them doing so.  They were technically our facilities until 8-1-71.

I believe the L&N made their initial statement with a couple of Monon locomotives which they blacklined and painted L&N over the Monon name, I think an RS2 and a yard engine.  / Ron
