Anyone have details on the McDoel antenna incident that killed Mr. McQuire in '59?
-
Unbelievably, i have a copy of the newspaper article in my scrapbook. I was only 13 yrs old then. Anyway, the headline is: TWO KILLED, THIRD HURT ERECTING TV ANTENNA. " Two Monon Railroad workers were killed today and a third was burned when a television antenna touched a power line. The three men were in a crew of six installing the antenna at the Monon Railroad yards. The metal aerial struck the power line and 7,200 volts of current killed Roy Manley, 55 yrs. old, Lafayette, and Hugh Albert McGuire about 50, Bloomington. Les Underwood of Bloomington was reported in fair condition with burns on the feet and hands."

I have that article too Rick, and it places the date of the incident as June 4, 1958, not 1959. / Ron

Robert T McCall AKA Shiny Shoes was an L&N man, so he came on after 1971.

Jim McDonald and James E McDonald are one in the same person. Attached is a photo of the Monon-Kingam Soft ball team. Jim is seated at the left side of the front row. His brother Bill is at the right side of the front row. There really wasn't much of a Monon connection to the team. Monon employees were Jim, Norman Young, Gene Robinson and Coach Bill Roberts.
