I'm about to change 85B to 85A but have noticed none of the decals I have feature gold lettering suitable for the unit number below the cab.
My research leads me to believe that the Athearn model is patterned on the livery post the rebuilding following the 1951 accident that demolished the Monon depot. Other photos I've seen of the unit don't have the numbers painted on the lower part of the nose, but this seems to be when the Hoosier Line script was on the bodyside....and also when the units were numbered as set 85 rather than A and B.
So I need to find suitable sized correct font gold letters....I only need 2 x A's......can anyone help identify suitable decals?

Have you checked Mont's decals. Model railroad supply set #100 should get you what you want.

Thanks Chad,
I'll have to get in touch with Mont, I have the diesel set which I believe is #100...it has numbers in gold but no A and B for the F3 sets.
Thanks for your reply. :)

Gents,
Won't the Microscale 87-359 Freight F unit set do the job?
See: http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=87-359
Or are these too small?

Yes Mike they are too small......I think they are for the rear of the carbody...and for B units.
