Numbers and Markings

In the Dave Ritenour photo DR265f, taken in New Albany as the train is nearing the southbound approach to the K&I bridge, there is a number 8, on a signpost. What did that "8" signify?
Thanks, David

David, it actually says 8R. It's some sort of number to identify that signal. I don't know what exact coding the K&IT RR used, but on the Monon main lines the signal numbers corresponded to the MP locations. / Ron
