Pictures of Monon Passenger Cars 43 and 44
« on: August 02, 2014, 04:01:07 pm »
Ron Plazzotta, retired CP employee from southern Indiana, has been working on a project for more than two years now.  He has documented window diagrams for the various monon coaches as they were originally build from the hospital cars and after they were rebuilt in the early 60s.  With all of the pictures taken by several folks over the years, we have not been able to locate shots of both sides of coaches number 43 or 44.

Does anyone have pictures of these cars (preferably both sides) That you would be willing to post to this site?  I did find a shot of one side of the 43 from the vestibule end.  It appears to be identical to the window pattern of car 22.  Any help will be appreciated.  Cully Kowal

Cully, don't know if these will help or not, but here's the only two shots we have of these cars in the archives, and these are certainly not very good pictures.  / Ron

Others may know more than I do. But were the 40 series the Deluxe Coaches, or an update on the interiors of the original 20 series ones? The window configuration would be the same wouldn't it?

The 40-series included at least two Grill-Coaches, Cully, #'s 42 and 45.  See attached.  The 40-series coaches also seemed to have had slightly different window patterns than the 20 series did, also (see the third shot).

According to the Monon car diagrams, when orginally out shopped, coaches 21 to 26 had seating for 46 people. The DeLuxe coaches 27 to 34 had seating for 34. Later information shows the seating capacity for cars 21/26 increased to 51 and cars 27/34 to 52. In 1956 grill coach 65 was converted to coach 41 with "High Density Seating". The removal of the grill area allowed the seating capacity to be increased to 64. The later 40 series coaches 42 to 49 seated 75 passengers.
