August 2016 THL
« on: July 29, 2016, 07:42:57 pm »
Yesterday we mailed from our World Headquarters in Salem the August 2016 issue of The Hoosier Line magazine, and again, thanks to Cecil Smith and our contributing authors, it is one more in our history of outstanding issues.

Our friend Steve Dolzall has crafted another excellent article, this time on Monon's first generation road switchers, 16 pages, 28 photographs, and a cover shot of yours truly passing Taylors with a brace of four RS-2's.  This is the third in Steve's series of articles on Monon diesel motive power, the first being on EMD demonstrators on the Monon in the August 2012 THL, and the second on F3's in the February 2016 issue.

This combined with articles from Bill Lesburg on steam locomotives, and Mary Lou Taylor on her one day's employment on the Monon, and we have another great issue for our loyal members and fans.

If we can now persuade Steve to do an article on the second generation Alcos and GE's, and another on the Monon's yard engines, we will have the most complete and indepth record ever written of the Monon's diesel era.  Are you listening Steve?

Again, the August issue coming soon to a mail box near you.  Enjoy, and a big thank you to all that helped.

/ Ron

Looking forward to another great issue.  Congratulations Ron for making the cover!  Thanks to Steve for his articles and to all who work so hard to produce and distribute this fine publication.

Ron,

On page 26 of the August THL, Steve Dolzall, on the retirement of the RS-2s, wrote "the remaining Monon RS-2 went to General Electric as trade in credit for new U30Cs". The Monon had GE U23Bs numbered in the 600s, but I've never previously read anything about U30Cs.

Stew, those were traded by the L&N after the merger.

Thanks Mike. I've reread page 26 and I now see where that part of the article had to do with the remaining RS2s after the L&N got them.

Steve, outstanding issue. I have received several emails about how great the article is. I seem to have become a collection point. Personally, I was a great informational read.

An excellent issue - kudos to all involved.  Steve, I particularly appreciate your sharing your depth of knowledge of the Monon's diesel fleet.  The THL bar has been raised!
