I came across a 1911 Book of Rules for the CIL. I'm currently scanning it, and when I get it completed, I'll send a copy to the society. One thing I thought was kind of amusing was the section on the use of the telephone to transmit orders. It has a section on how to speak on the telephone:
"233. Place lips close to mouth-piece and speak in a clear, firm and distinct ordinary tone of voice. Do not yell into transmitter nor hit or touch the diaphragm of the transmitter."
Another section on how to hang up:
"235. All telephone booths are equipped with switch locks and after being used, must be relocked. Replace receiver on hook, small end up, so that the circuit will not be disarranged."
Now, this was a fairly new technology back then, but I still know some people who could use a refresher
