Loren Cooper & Oval "Huts" Neideffer... also went by "Hutch" part of Section Gang working near Cloverdale. Could the bridge be the Highway 40 or Interstate 70 bridge??

Tom,

US 40 bridge would be a good guess.  The photos appear to be too old for it to be I-70.  This would put the site immediately south of Putnamville, which is on US 40.

I sort of had that inkling too George. The terrain looked like Putnamville.  This is a nice series of photos. I hope I can get Mike to allow Ron to re-scan them for our Archives.

I always thought "the section" did the every day maintenance things in their section. This looks like a "track gang" complete with camp cars, including diner, shower car, crane, and heave track machines.

Per a suggestion by Gene Remaly, I renamed the thread, Track Gang. My original label was because that is what Mike called the pictures. I believe his relatives were on the gang.

In railroad parlance they were both track gangs.  The section gangs worked out of sectionhouses and did maintenance work in their particular sections, and the extra gangs lived in camp cars and did heavier work all over the system.  / Ron

PS, Ken, do you have the photos matched up with the names?

It can't be Putnamville guys, as the track under U. S. 40 is a curve, and I don't think there was ever a siding under the bridge. The I-70 bridge was built in 1966 or 67.  Vern @ G.
