Just received my copy, way earlier than usual.  Noticed an interesting tidbit on Page 13.  It's always been "common knowledge" that the Monon never owned any trackage outside of Indiana (at least not in the 20th Century, Mr.Wheeler).  Yet there it is, in black and white in the 1949 Annual Report.  The Monon DID own 0.7 miles of yard tracks or sidings in the "Louisville Yard".

Two errors concerning the "Questions and Answers" photos:

Page 21:  The burnt ruin shown is that of the Bedford freighthouse, directly across the tracks from the passenger depot.  We mistakenly cropped it.

Page 22: Photos 642A and 642B should have been 645 a and 645B, to illustrate early BL2's little MU receptacle doors, in the second paragraph on page 24.

I always wondered about Illinois too.  The Stateline tower diagrams seem to show a few hundred feet in Illinois. Also, would the terminal tracks at Dearborn freight house have been owned by the Monon, or maybe something in the 49th street coach yard?

This drawing seems to indicate that the Monon maintained a small portion of track in Illinois at SL, but it doesn't show ownership.

Not according to that 1949 Annual Report, Mike.  No track ownership in Illinois whatsoever.

Since that is the Lynne sitting in the photo, the scene has to date 1954 or later.

The 1954 CI&L annual report notes the construction by the S&A Coal corporation of a new coal washer and tipple at Victoria and the construction  of a coal washer and tipple by the
Ax Coal Company at Midland on Monon owned property. I would say the photo shows the Ax Company construction.
