Maybe beard growing contest as part of Campbellsburg centennial celebration..or similar festival....

Could be. I know that during the Lowell Centennial in 1952, most local businessmen and important folk grew them. My Grandpa hated beards, but I heard he even grew one for the festivities.

During the last few years that I visted with Lloyd he had a beard.
