Ketucky Day Special

On October, 20, 1947 the Monon operated a "Kentucky Day Special" between Louisville and Chicago and return.  The train was made up of 17 sleeping cars, 2 dinning cars and one baggage car. At the time,  this was the largest passenger train ever handled in one section on the Monon.

That's a whole lot of gross tonnage for a passenger train...would have been quite a sight working its way up the Knobs!

I would imagine he had 3 units.  If i remember correctly, when using the F units, the rule of thumb was 1 eng. for 4 cars, 2 engs for 5 or more cars.  That would have applied to Nos. 5 and 6 for maintaining the schedule.
