Yes indeed, Tom! American Flyer 3-rail O guage. 3 car (incl engine) "Burlington Zephyr" train in 1946. Figure 8 of track.
Later, in 1949, my dad and I traded it in for a Varney HO F3 A-B, resulting a bit later in my first of many attempts to brush-paint MONON colors. had a 2-track loop on a ping-pong table, on "Tru-Scale" wood roadbed and ties with brass rail and just 2 turnouts. Plastic Varney and wood/metal/cardstock Mantua freight cars, all with those early Mantua "loop" couplers. Drew chalk streets and buildings, etc. on the green tabletop. Crude, yes--but those were the days, when between frequent bike rides up to the South Hammond yards, only the blaaat from right across the street of a real MONON F3's horn could roust me out of that long-ago Munster basement!
Hope you're up and about by now, Big Guy. /Tim.
