Stanley Cobb
 
Feb. 17, 1935 — Jan. 3, 2013

BEDFORD — Stanley Cobb, 77, of Bedford, passed away at 1:57 p.m. on Thursday at Garden Villa in Bedford.
 
He was born in Bedford on Feb. 17, 1935, to Henry and Ollie (Childers) Cobb, Stanley married Phyllis Ann Sparks on April 7, 1956, and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2000.
 
Stanley worked as a Railroad Engineer for over 40 years for CSX and Monon Railway; he was a member of the Oolitic VFW Post No. 1686
 
Survivors include one son, Doug Cobb and his wife Becky of Bedford, two grandchildren, Cassidy Cobb of Bedford and Sean Cobb of Lanesville; one great-grandchild, Hunter Cobb of Bedford; two sisters, Marie Fields of Florida and Maggie Jones of Bedford; and one brother, Claude E. Cobb of Waverly
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Ann Cobb; one son, Michael Cobb; and five brothers, Arthur, Perry, Leonard, Matt and Ed Cobb.
 
Cremation was chosen with burial in Cresthaven Memory Gardens

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oolitic VFW Post No. 1686

Cresthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements

Thank you for posting this Tom.  I worked with Stanley for many years.  He was a nice guy, and a [not allowed]ed good locomotive engineer.  One of the best on the Monon.  RIP old friend.  / Ron

Well said, Ron.  I always enjoyed working with him.  He could get the train over the road faster, and with less trouble than almost any other engineer.

Tuesday morning at our monthly Monon breakfast Dave Meadows gave me his fathers photo album to scan, and when I opened it, on the first page, was a picture of Stanley Cobb.  I was particularly pleased because we didn't have a picture of him in the archives.  Here he is on the right, with another 40 year Monon man, Jim Shaughnessy, on the left.  who also passed away several years ago.  RIP old friends,  / Ron

Looked like an awfully serious checker game.  Gosh, they both look young.
