Airslide Hoppers
« on: March 15, 2013, 09:31:21 pm »
Anyone have a photo of the GATX car Monon leased from General American. It's the car the Society released many years ago as a flat cavity kit from Eastern Car Works. I am trying to locate color photos of the car. I am hoping to get the model produced again. Didn't Champion make a decal set? The prototype car carried the triangular General American Airslide logo on the upper left of the car body (second panel). The Monon road name was red, and roughly centered on the car body (3rd thru 7th panels). The wheel-and-rail logo was placed to the right of the road name (9th panel), and was also stenciled in red. All other lettering was black.

I probably have the kit, but where I don't know.  I would almost bet that there's an article about the car in an old Hoosier Line.  Back in those days, if Eastern Card Works didn't paint the kit, there's probably a good chance that Accurate Finishing did.

I now have a photo of the kit, what we need is good detailed photos of the lettering and details. Yes there was an article in The Hoosier Line, but all images are in black and white. There were also images and articles in Mainline Modeler, but I don't have that magazine.

Here is the car I would like prototype photos of. We need good quality, or drawings. There is a possibility of having a ready to run version produced.

See attached - is this what the GATX car looked like after Monon bought it?
