Edward H. Ausban, 78, of Lafayette, died Wednesday September 4, 2013 in Lafayette. Edward was born in Lafayette January 17, 1935, the son of the late Emmit C. and Thelma Lee Brock Ausban, and attended Lafayette Jefferson High School. He married Sharon S. Smith in Americus, IN. October 27, 1985, and she survives. Edward was employed by the Monon Railroad, later the L & N and CSX as a car inspector, retiring in 1988 after 36 years. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 11, and a former member of the 40 & 8 and the Moose Lodge.

Surviving beside his wife are two sons, John Edward and James Howard Ausban (wife Jennifer) both of Lafayette, IN.; three stepsons, Jac Eugene Hatke (wife Beth) of Delphi, IN.; Norman James Hatke of Atlanta, GA.; Bradley Mark Hatke (wife Tami) of Lafayette, IN and a stepdaughter, Sally Sue Burkhalter (husband Brent) of Lafayette, IN.; and by a brother, Ernest Ausban of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Ausban; a stepson, Dean Alan Hatke; a sister, Mary Harshman and by two brothers, Elmer and Emmit Ausban.

There will be no visitation. A private family interment service will be held at Concord Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Almost Home Humane Society. Hahn-Groeber Funeral & Cremation Services is caring for the family.

A message of condolence has been posted on the FH website and a card has been prepared to be mailed to the surviving widow.
