Rodney Dale VanPelt, age 79 of Bloomington, passed away Monday morning September 9, 2013 at the Brown County Health and Living Center. He was born July 14, 1934 in Clear Creek, Indiana to Opal and Beulah Kinser VanPelt.

Rodney went to elementary school at Clear Creek and then graduated from Bloomington High School in 1952. From there he went on to serve in the United Sates Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1955. He spent his professional career working 29 and half years for the Monon and L&M Railroad. Rodney was actively involved with and served on many of the boards of the following organizations; Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1081 and #90; Life member of the VFW Post 604 of Bloomington; the American Legion Burton Woolery Post #18 of Bloomington; the Eagles Lodge #1035 of Bloomington and Lodge #4381 of Ellettsville. Additionally he also thoroughly enjoyed supporting his boys in their Motor Cross racing. 

Rodney's survivors include; son Rodney D. VanPelt II and wife Annette; son Raymond "Denny" VanPelt; son Robert D. VanPelt and wife Amy; Randy D. VanPelt and wife Ronda; daughter Rebecca D Pemberton and husband Steve; grandchildren Ryan David, Reid Douglas, Eric Samuel, Chelsea Renee, Cassie Beth, Hanna Elizabeth, Robert Tyler, Kylee, Matthew, Megan and Victoria VanPelt, and Joe Pemberton; great grandchildren, Austin Ryan, Madeline Claire, and Rowan Dale VanPelt. He is also survived by siblings Richard M. VanPelt and Rebecca Sue Medaris. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry Donald VanPelt.

Funeral services for Rodney will be held Friday September 13, 2013 at 1:30PM at Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, September  12, 2013, from 4:00PM until 8:00PM also at Allen Funeral Home.
