2013 Convention Off And Running
« on: September 20, 2013, 01:32:01 pm »
Arrived safely in Lafayette and after checking in, I went out for a short walk, which included going past the old depot on 5th. Shot a few pictures. Still looks nice, but would look better is still in use by the Monon....

Yeah, if Pete's gonna try to make it in show business as a singer, he better not give up his day job quite yet.  It was a nice evening though, and I enjoyed it.  Good job Pete & Melissa.  Thanks for all the work you guys do.  We appreciate it.  / Ron

I have missed a few recently. If this is an example, I've missed a lot. Family of three enjoyed a good dinner, Amtrac ride on former Monon roadbed, a day in Chicago and probably what I've missed most was a bunch of guys and gals that are great company. It takes a lot to put on a convention,  I've chaired a couple, and this may have been the best my family has attended.  Thanks to Pete and Melissa for all the hard work to make everything a success. The society is in great hands. The Simunics

Yes, a good time was had by all.   Because of my problems, I cannot travel out of town so I have been looking forward to this for a year.   I didn't take the AMTRAK trip but the banquet was very nice and I got to meet some new friends.  I have to first say that I missed G3, Cecil, George Lortz and Joe Land.  I know they had good reasons for not being there.   I did have the honor of sitting with Marilyn Barnard (1948 Miss Monon) at the banquet.   I also met J.M. Mike Brown who is the grandson of not one but two northend Monon trainmen -- Buck Harless and JR Brown.  I knew both men.  Who knows? Maybe I will be around if the convention comes back to Lafayette in another 10 years.
