Barriger library photos
« on: February 03, 2014, 10:18:15 am »
I just stumbled on a tremendous set of photographs from the Barriger library that have been posted on flickr, including a set of 200 Monon RR photos. Here is the link to the Monon set:

I apologize if this has been posted already. I haven't checked in here in a while.

Nice. Be great to get them for our Archives. Anyone have any information on who posted these? Be nice to contact them and see about getting copies for our Photo Archives.

Did you notice that some of the prints are reversed.  The negatives were printed on the wrong side.

I have the count at 638 so far that they have posted. I also saw a NKP set that includes some Monon related shots. Judging by the numbers on the negatives (over 900), we may be in for some more as they are uploaded.

To reverse the images simply use Paint and select "Rotate - Flip Horizontal."

A least half of the shots I have looked at are flipped but that is easy to fix, as Ryan said. I was told that Barriger liked to take photos himself from the rear of his inspection train and most of the shots appear to have been taken in that manner.

There are a couple of Reynolds. I don't know the numbers off the top of my head.

Chad,

I am thinking 89-95 go together and some may need flipped Horizontally.   But I am not from the north so Mike Albert or someone else should weigh in on this.

Some of the Reynolds pics had to be flipped.  It looks to me like they were taken just before the automatic interlocker was put in operation, replacing the gate.  The PRR dwarf signals are turned away from the track.

This is the best shot of Limedale I have ever seen. From the PRR St.Louis Div. set.  Vern@G.

There are pictures of the Monon busses. #301 and #303 are of the Black and Gold and the Red and Gray at French Lick is #605

Certainly not better than these, Vern!

I believe all three (and many others) were taken by Kalmbach's Linn Westcott on his 1946 tour of the Monon.

Vern, how did you manage to capture the image from the Barriger Library website?  I haven't figured out how to.

Anything of Limedale looks good to me, Tim!  To download, I left-click and choose original sizing, then right-click. The picture will then download for me.  Vern @ G.

A tool such as Bulk Image Downloader can do the job for the bunch - it is payware but you can use it as a trial which allows you to download 100 images at a time. Simply select 100 of the bunch, download, and then move onto the next 100.
