CSX request to abandon line to Monticello
« on: February 07, 2014, 01:42:48 pm »
CSX Transportation, Inc. ("CSXT") petitions the Surface Transportation Board (the
"Board") to exempt CSXT's abandonment of an approximately 9.67-mile rail line on its
Monticello Industrial Track, Monon Subdivision, between Monon, milepost OQA 88.33, and
Monticello, milepost OQA 98.00, in White County, Indiana (the "Line"), under 49 U.S.C.
§ 10502, from the prior approval requirements of 49 U.S.C. § 10903.
Abandonment will allow CSXT to avoid costs that would be incurred by the continued
ownership of the Line. There is currently one customer on the Line, Monticello Farm Service,
Inc. ("MFS"). MFS has access to alternate transportation service.

The abandonment notice will be published formally in the Federal Register on Monday, Feb. 24. Here are links to the documents (nearly the same content as Stew already linked, but in the format published in the FR).

Text Format: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014-02-24/html/2014-03869.htm
PDF Format: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2014-02-24/pdf/2014-03869.pdf

The original notice is somewhat more useful in that it includes maps and related correspondence.

Stew W - how on earth did you get your hands on that link 2 weeks ahead of it being published in the Register? Are you holding out on us about your connections?  ;)

The STB link was posted on the Indiana Railroads board. I copied it from there.

Almost seems too easy. I usually see Monon and other Indiana-related abandonment notices only when they come out in the Federal Register, which as we've seen is a couple weeks after they are filed with STB.

The tone of the STB filing, to my reading, said that while Monticello Farm Service did have alternative transportation, they were not really happy with the prospect of delivery by truck...

Been reading bureaucratic announcements too much...sometimes I think I end up reading in content that isn't actually there.
